Drifting North: Into the Polar Night
Join scientists on an ice floe in the middle of the Arctic Ocean as they race fading light to set up one of the most ambitious international climate collaborations ever, MOSAiC, the Multidisciplinary Drifting Observatory for the Study of Arctic Climate.
Launched in September 2019 and led by the Alfred Wegener Institute (Germany), the largest polar expedition in history froze an icebreaker into the Central Arctic Ocean. It was done to better understand this remote region of the world and the role it plays in global climate and weather patterns. Now, in 360°, you can experience the first three months of the year-long expedition as darkness descends, storms swirl, and scientists work to gather data from a harsh and unforgiving environment.
